Wipe and maintain

When it comes to wiping the rosin on the piano, it's really a regular job. All Aegean people will pay attention to protecting their treasures. My experience is:

1. The longer the playing time, the more rosin powder there is, and the higher the frequency of cleaning the piano. Not paying attention to keeping the piano surface clean not only affects its appearance, but also its sound quality. Unless there are special circumstances, people who play the qin seriously are usually diligent and not so tired that they are too lazy to even clean it.

2. It is best to use a soft cloth that has been moistened with clean water to clean the piano. If it is too rough and dry, it will damage the surface of the piano. Someone suggested using a cleaning agent, but I disagree. I am afraid it may cause the paint to fade and deteriorate.

3. When cleaning the piano, one should not apply too much force. Even for dirty instruments, one should carefully and patiently wipe them gently and repeatedly. The same principle applies.

4. It is best to wipe along the direction of the annual rings (vertical lines of wood) rather than along the direction of the rays (horizontal lines of wood), because the vertical lines of wood are the basic structure of wood.

5. The rosin on the bow should not be wiped too much, it needs to be wiped frequently and infrequently, with five or six full round trips each time, enough to last for two or three hours.

6. It is best to purchase and use high-quality processed rosin to reduce the flying of rosin powder.

7. Before wiping the rosin, you can gently blow the rosin powder to reduce the amount of wiping work.

8. In addition to the key parts between the fingerboard and the piano size, it is also important to not forget the upper and lower parts of the fingerboard, the upper and lower parts of the string pulling board, the bow stem, and the chin rest, especially the strings (the part where the bow is moved is particularly important), to prevent the accumulation of pine resin on the fingerboard from affecting normal vibration and pronunciation.

9. After wiping with a damp soft cloth, be sure to use a large clean soft cloth to wipe away the moisture.

10. Wiping rosin should not be done by hand on the speaker. It is best to grip the neck of the violin with one hand and operate it with the other. If it is inconvenient, the violin can be clamped between the legs. In short, the violin cannot be damaged by rubbing rosin.
