Violin Teaching Notes

Advantages of being a violin teacher:
1. Theoretical knowledge is relatively comprehensive, with some understanding of music theory, sight singing, music history, harmony, counterpoint, musical form, instrumental techniques, and orchestration;

2. The long history of self-learning the violin has given me a lot of experience in many misconceptions, common problems, easy detours, and correction methods. On the contrary, if I had received a very formal education from the beginning, I may not have had as many feelings as I do;

3. I am still learning piano from very professional teachers now;

4. I have a great passion for music and a great enthusiasm for music teaching;

5. For many years, I have read almost all the books about violin that I can find, and have read many valuable ones. I have conducted research on performance and teaching, and have also gained an understanding of the similarities and differences in viewpoints among different schools of thought and teachers.
The disadvantages of being a violin teacher:

1. Born in a non academic background, not in a professional class;

2. The level of performance is still not high;

3. Lack of teaching experience.
At the beginning, students are required to prepare the following items:

Violin (including bow): Accurate size required
Piano case: used to protect the violin and can hold other items
Rosin: Arches need to be coated with rosin before each practice session
Shoulder pads: If the neck is long, it is recommended to use shoulder pads
Fine tuning: Beginners can use 4 small adjustments to speed up their tuning learning
Tuning and metronome app: downloadable on mobile phones
Spare strings: can be replaced when broken
Textbook: It is recommended to use Professor Zhang Shixiang's "100 Days of Novice Violin Learning" as an introductory textbook
Music stand: used for placing music scores during practice
Full body/half body mirror: used to correct one's posture and movements when no one is helping
