Method of making inlaid lines (inlaid lines, black and white lines)
90 years ago, I made a thread embedding using a perfectly cut wooden block with a width of 4.5 centimeters. Soak the wooden block in water for a few days, then use a planer [with the cooperation of two people] to carve out the desired thickness of wood chips. Enlarge the sliced wood pieces and boil them in dye water in a pot. Just add one white adhesive to the last two black ones.
When I first started making the qin, it was not easy to carve out the regular wooden strips, as described by Teacher Yang. However, dyeing can also be done using pure plants, which is also convenient to obtain. Soak some pomegranate peels or galls from a traditional Chinese medicine store in water. Boiling water may be more effective. Roll the sliced wooden strips into rolls and soak them in pomegranate peel water for a few days. Then prepare a bottle of water, pour some vinegar, about one or two tablespoons, and add some iron nails. Of course, iron filings are better. Take the wooden strip out of the pomegranate peel water and let it cool dry. Then soak it in iron nail vinegar water for a while until it turns black. You can then take it out and clip it into a book page or under a glass plate for drying.
