Research and Discussion on the Analysis of Violin Audio Spectrum Waveforms

We all know that WAV and MP3 are essentially analog audio. As long as they are analog audio, they must carry frequency waveforms and spectral harmonic waveforms themselves, which cannot be discarded. Therefore, the author has seen some qin makers abroad using spectral harmonics and frequency waveforms to compare the waveforms of the entire violin and even its components. However, they do not know where they obtained the standard waveforms of world-renowned qin components for comparison, and later only conducted their own research.

We often study violin problems, which can be summarized into three aspects:
Firstly, qin making involves four aspects: wood, qin type, production process, and paint,
Secondly, quality: (volume, timbre, duration of playing, sensitivity, penetration, and transmission effect)
Thirdly, using the qin: (using inertia and playing ability)

In essence, the three major directions mentioned above all involve and point to one question, which is sound. What kind of sound is recognized, accepted, and considered good by everyone? This is the fundamental problem. As for some antique pianos that cannot be repaired or used, they are at best antiques and can only provide reference data compared to qin makers.

There are different opinions about the sound of the violin, but they are all heard with the ears and seen with the eyes. In recent years, although some scientific methods and testing equipment have been used domestically and internationally to conduct some inspections, they are still extremely confidential and rarely disclosed to the world.

In essence, based on years of analysis and personal experience, the author believes that the conclusion of violin testing should not be solely judged by the eyes and ears of various schools, but should be supported by relative scientific data to convince people with reason.
Therefore, the author believes that we already have a scientifically validated tool, but it has not been valued by many people yet. As long as it is used in a music editor to compare and analyze the frequency spectrum of high and low frequencies through the harmonic editor of the audio, the violin will speak on its own, and it will tell you which category and level it belongs to, and everyone can be a musician. The details displayed in the spectrum analysis waveform are very clear and convincing, but there is currently no relatively specific standard data available.
