Installing the sound column with a bottle mouth knot is both fast and good
The traditional installation of the sound column has always used the tip of the "sound column device brazing rod" to be inserted into one side of the sound column, and installed through the F-hole, which not only damages the sound column but is also difficult to install. After practice, I used the bottle neck knot (also known as the oil bottle knot) from daily life to tie the sound column, and inserted it through the F hole, which was both fast and good. First, prepare two fine woolen or cotton threads, a half foot long iron wire, one end bent into a hook, and then prepare a sound column drill. On the inclined side of the sound column facing the right F-hole, mark it with a pencil at both ends. Tie the upper half of the sound column about one-third with a bottle neck knot, and place the marked side on the right side of the bottle neck knot. Insert it into the left F-hole and hook the wire end that needs to be threaded out of the right F-hole with a wire hook. Leave the left wire end outside the left F-hole. After hooking out the wire head on the right side, hold the left and right wire heads with both hands, and the sound column will hang vertically in the violin resonance box. Gently move the wire head, and position the sound column about 3mm behind the left notch of the F-hole on the right side, 15mm away from the left edge of the F-hole. Use the straight line between the two corners on the right side of the violin to observe how much the sound column tilts forward and backward? Is it vertical? Parallel to this line is perpendicular. From the hole at the end of the instrument, observe whether the sound column is tilted left or right, and if there is a vertical seam at the junction of the neck and body, it is considered vertical if it is parallel to it. If there is a deviation, the bottom can be corrected with a sound column drill, and the upper end can be pulled to hold the wire head, both of which can be adjusted appropriately. After installation, use a wire hook to gently loosen the bottle mouth knot on the sound column, and then use the wire hook to pull out the wire. In practice, one will gain experience and become very proficient.
If you want to replace the sound column, you can use a thin yarn thread, fold it in half, insert the folded end into the F-hole, use a wire hook to hook it out of the other F-hole, insert the two ends of the folded end into the F-hole, look at the sound column, use the wire hook to hook it out on the other side of the sound column, after hooking it out, thread the two ends of the wire into the folded circle, tighten it slightly, and then wrap the sound column and pull it out of the F-hole. This way, a new sound column can be replaced with a bottle mouth knot.
